Peace

The Signs are Everywhere

It’s amazing the things that happen to us when we open ourselves up to possibilities.  As I mentioned in my earlier post, I have been in a deep search for my purpose and meaning in life.  In that, I had decided that today I would have an 8 hour technology strike.  My phone was turned off, my computer put away, and the TV never turned on.  I knew that today would be about reflection, and maybe finding a little bit of peace after a very difficult few weeks.

I woke up at 9:11 this morning, my strike was to begin at 10:00.  I also decided I would go get a massage today, I figured it was a good addition to my technology free day.  So at 10:01 I began by meditating for a while, then picking up one of the books I bought yesterday (the book is called Intuitive Wellness, I bought it because I thought it would be a good start to the coursework I’m about to begin), I took a nap before my 2-hour massage and actually had quite the amazing day. Before my 2:00 massage, I had noticed a trend happening, from the time I woke up.  If you know me, you would know that I believe that everything means something.

I will start by telling you the trend. The numbers “2″ and “11″.  I’m sure most of you are thinking, wow this chick is crazy.  But really think about it.  I woke up at 9:11, which in itself has two “2″s and 2 “11″s.  (11 minutes, 1+1=2, AND 9+1+1=11 which again =2).  At 10:01 I began meditating (again 10+1=11, and 1+1=2).  Right at 11:00 I started the book….you get the point.  Moving on from there I fell asleep for 2 hours, and had a 2 hour massage at 2:00.  So of course being conscious of this I referenced my “Angel Numbers’ book. (Yes I actually have one of those, everyone should).  Here are what these numbers mean according to the book:

2 = “Everything’s fine and will continue to be so.  Keep believing, especially since your feelings of hope lead to more positive outcomes.”

11 = “Stay positive! Your thoughts are materializing rapidly, so you want to ensure positive outcomes by focusing only on the good within yourself, others, and this situation.”

To some people these may be coincidences, most people wouldn’t really have thought about the number thing to begin with, but wait….. there is more!

There was only one massage therapist available for a 2-hour massage today, it was someone I have never had before.  Her name was Heiderose, she’s a German woman, probably around 45-50 years old.  I felt her energy as soon as she shook my hand, I had a feeling it would be a good session, but I never thought it would be what it turned out to be.  The massage itself, was pretty good, kinda light, but very relaxing.  But we got to talking, she was asking me about my tattoos, and what they meant, and we just started talking. Well it turns out Heiderose isn’t just a massage therapist, she is also medical assistant and a hospice chaplain.  She is an ordained minister, a spiritual healer and a channel.  Now I know that there are alot of people who don’t believe in this kind of stuff, and I totally respect that.  However, this is my point, I met her today because I was supposed to meet her.  I actually “ran into” someone who is doing the things that I am moving towards doing.  She recommended some courses for me to take, and some books to get, and actually ended up doing a bit of energy work on me.  As I was laying there, thinking about the numbers “2″ and “11″, and how I had come to be on this woman’s table, and I knew.  I knew at that moment, that the path I am moving toward, in finding my higher purpose, was the right one.

So….that was my technology-free 8 hours (See there is a reason the title of my blog is RANDOM)  BUT, all that being said, I HIGHLY recommend that everyone take a day, or a few hours, or even an hour every week and turn off everything.  The phone, the computer, the tv, the ipad, all that crap that takes our energy away from ourselves. It is important that every now an then, everyone take some time to renew themselves…..If we don’t, we end up not having anything to give to ourselves, or to anyone else.

Desiderata

I had never heard of Desiderata, until I met my dear friend Jamie.  She shared this poem with me almost two years ago, and it is something that has definitely stuck with me.

This poem says so much about the world, and I truly believe that if everyone could take just one piece of it, and live it, they could experience a change unlike any other.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

We live in an era of technology, telephones, computers, and noise.  An era where everyone is in a rush to get somewhere, or nowhere.  I know that I cherish my moments of complete silence, how often, and for how long can you sit in silence.  Without talking, or looking at your phone or computer?  When is the last time that you sat in silence, and thanked God, or the Universe, or whoever/whatever you believe in for your blessings, or making it home safely, or just making it through the day.  How often do you quickly rush to anger before taking the time to listen to someone else’s point of view?  What about your day could have been different, had you just taken the time to hear what someone had to say?

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

I’m sad that we find it necessary to compare ourselves to others.  Why are we so concerned with what others think about us?  If we can look at ourselves in the mirror and know that we are good people, why must we beg for approval from others.  Why do we feel sorry for ourselves when someone else has achieved something, we have not yet been able to rather than feel happy for them.  And why are we so quick to look down upon someone else who may not have been able to achieve something we did?

Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

So many of us growing up were compared to other kids.  Why couldn’t you be like that person?  It’s a shame that so many of us feel that, just being us isn’t good enough.  As we get older that theory gets deeper ingrained in our minds, which of course leads to low self-esteem and confidence issues, which we remember from school also leads to bullies.  Be a good person, that makes you good enough.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive God to be; and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

Regardless of whether or not you believe in God, and regardless of what religion you may or may not practice, we all have a purpose of being here.  Often times we don’t know what that purpose is, but I believe that when you are ready, and when it’s time, you will know.  With all of the hustle and bustle in life, we forget to take a moment to check our souls and find peace.  If you can keep peace in your soul, your purpose will become clear.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

~Max Ehrman

It’s so easy to think of all of the terrible things we see.  It’s so easy to focus on all of the terrible things we are going through.  But take a look around.  Notice the sunrise on your way to work, or the sunset on your way home.  Hear the birds singing in the trees, take a moment to smell the flowers.  Life is so short. I truly don’t believe we were put here to rush through life only to die.  We have to enjoy the ride.  And our happiness…..that is up to us, no one else can make you happy.
